Seeing good buck activity on camera but they're not responding to my calling. I'm using a basic contact grunt but wondering if I should switch to tending grunts this time of year. What's working for you guys in the pre-rut?
I hunt 40 acres surrounded by other small parcels. Will aggressive rattling push deer off my property or can it still work? Also concerned about pulling deer from neighbors. What's the etiquette here?
Practicing QDM on our lease and struggling to tell 2.5 year olds from 3.5+ in the moment. Body characteristics seem to vary so much by individual. Any reliable indicators you use for quick field aging?
The moon phase debate continues. I've tracked my hunts for 5 years and can't find a pattern. During the rut, I see good movement regardless. What does the data actually show? Share your experiences.

🎯 The 15-Minute Rule
After using any call or rattling sequence, wait minimum 15 minutes before calling again. Bucks often circle downwind before committing. If you call again too soon, you'll spook them during their approach circle.
🌡️ Cold Front Strategy
First cold front of October triggers pre-rut activity. Bucks suddenly on their feet in daylight. This is prime time for calling and rattling even though the calendar says it's early. Hunt all day if you can.
🦌 The Hang-Up Solution
When a buck hangs up at 80 yards, resist the urge to call more. Instead, use a single soft grunt or bleat, then go completely silent. Often they're waiting for visual confirmation. Give them time.
